OH MY! Do I have a story for you!
The Back Story:
Dear ole Mr. Incredible has a little sleeping issue. He talks, moves art off the walls, and sometimes (like last night) he gets a little nasty with me. Most of the time I'm not the object of his hostility. According to him, when I interact with him at all during these episodes, I become part of his dream. A very real part.
Last Night's Story:
SISTER
At about 2:30 I felt him moving suddenly (cue the craziness! Here it comes!) and he got really, really close to me. He started yelling "Is your sister here? Is she here? Yes or No! Is your sister here?" Now according to M.I., here's where I went wrong: I started patting him on the arm and in a really sweet tone saying "Chase wake up, it's ok, wake up." To which he responded (like usual but without the bad words this time) "I AM AWAKE! DON'T TELL ME TO WAKE UP!" Then he punched at me (it was pitch dark thank goodness) so he grazed my arm and most of the force hit the bed. So of course I yelled "DON'T HIT ME!" And he started the "IS YOUR SISTER HERE!?!?" screams again. All I could say was "No! She's not here!" At that point I turned the light on and he was STILL not awake. Eyes open, but not awake. He was reeeeeally mad. And so was I! The whole episode ended with him waking up and realizing how mad I was and leaving the room.
The dream according to him: He was shooting a wedding and the bride wouldn't tell him if her sister was there for formals. When I "entered" his dream, I became the bride. Whoa be unto a bride who doesn't answer his question about a family member being present!!!
Today's lunch date topic was "How to NOT make Chase angry while he's having an 'Episode'". Bottom line he says I should not interact with him at all - just get out of the bed, turn the light on, and clap my hands until he wakes up. Yeah, I see a problem here: I can just picture me turning on the light to find Syndrome (yeah - that's his name when he's a sleeping terror) crouched on the bed like a bull. I don't think clapping my hands would do anything but invite him to chase me! This could end very badly for me...
I say all that to say this: If at any point I show up with black eyes or broken bones, please vouch for me that he has a problem in his sleep. I could never in a million years see Chase doing any harm to me while he's awake, but as Syndrome it's a different story!
I'll end this post on a funny note from one of Syndrome's other moments:
THE HOLE
One night I felt M.I. moving incredibly fast across the bed in my direction. (We have a King, so sometimes it takes me a little bit to wake up enough to see it coming.) He took both of his hands and literally dove under my pillow. He was screaming "The hole! I have to cover the hole!" (Side note: This was at the very beginning of our marriage, so I wasn't quite aware of the magnitude of the situation.) So of course I wake up pushing him away and trying to wake him up. First mistake. I was also telling him there wasn't a hole. Second mistake. At this point, he grabbed my wrist and jerked it up in the air to keep me away from the "hole" under my pillow. There we were, him covering the invisible hole, me dangling in the air screaming "WAKE UP!" I eventually pulled away and ran to the bathroom. After a few seconds of silence, I opened the door and found him rolled back over like nothing had ever happened!
The dream according to him: Our house was flooding and the water was coming in through the hole under my pillow! I was stopping him from saving the house, so he had to stop me!!! LOL
Until next time ======================================> Ashley
You just gotta love M.I. I do think we should google this and see what we come up with as a solution, though. ;O)
