You asked, so you got it! {Part 1}

The alternate title for this post is "How I do it in 1000 words or less".

I've had several people ask me what I use to plan our meals and I'm so excited to share it with you!!
The hardest part is trying to tell you about it without overwhelming you with its awesomeness.

All I can say is just try it - you'll LOVE it! It's a tremendous time saver and money saver for us.

My friends, let me introduce you to a dear friend of mine:

That's right. Saymmm.

First of all - I'm not being paid to say any of these things about Saymmm. I just love it so much that my analysis may come across as gushing and overly positive. Truth is, the only downside I've found so far is that you can only store 100 recipes for free. Now before you click away, the fee is only $3.00 a month. They charge you $9.00 every 3 months. It's totally worth it.

Ok back to it.

After you've gone to the website and created your account, you'll see this page:

The first thing you'll need to do is start adding recipes.
(Notice that I have 132 recipes saved so far.)

The adding process is pretty easy. There are two ways to add a recipe:
1. Manually from your recipe books or cards.
2. From a website that you frequent.

First, here's how to manually add a recipe of your own.

MANUALLY ADD A RECIPE

Step 1: Click the Add Recipe button

Step 2: Enter the recipe name and recipe.

It's totally up to you on how you want to format your recipes. I find it easiest to stick to the standard and enter the ingredients at the top with the amounts. You'll see why I do this in a minute.

Step 3: Click Continue to pull ingredients to shopping list.

The cool thing about Saymmm is that when you add a recipe, it automatically generates a shopping list for you. This means that any time you choose to cook this recipe, it will automatically pull over these ingredients to your shopping list.

Notice in the shopping list above some of the ingredients were translated into ounces instead of what is listed in your recipe. You can click Edit beside each ingredient and go back and fix those the way you want to see them.

You can also click on the Area beside each ingredient and change the area of the store if yours is laid out different that the standard. For example, if I'm getting frozen chicken, I'll change it from the Meat area to Frozen.

Step 4: Move items between the "Get" and "Check" sections

Look at the shot above at the ingredient Grated Parmesan Cheese. Notice that it's in the "Get" section. If Grated Parmesan Cheese is something you keep on hand regularly, you can click Move above and move it down to the "Check" section. (I'll show you later how to move stuff back if you check your pantry and you are out.)

Step 5: Once you like how everything looks, click Continue.

Step 6: Select a category and rate your dish.

Place a check next to any categories that apply. To rate your dish, click the M that applies. Obviously, the most M's equals a really good dish!

Step 6: Click Finish

ADD A RECIPE FROM A WEBSITE

Step 1: Click the Add Recipe button

Step 2: Go to your recipe online

Step 3: Copy the link for the recipe

To do this, go to the recipe, click the link three times to select the entire link OR click at the end of the link and drag to the beginning of the link. Right-click the highlighted link and click copy.

Step 4: Paste the link to Saymmm

On the New Recipe page, add the recipe's title. Then, click Link in the next section.

Right-click in the blank link line and click Paste. Your page should now look like this:

Step 5: Click continue to pull in the recipe ingredients

Step 6: Copy the recipe

Go back to the recipe's website. Click at the end of the recipe section and drag up to the beginning of the ingredient list to highlight the entire recipe. Right-click on the highlighted section and click Copy.

Step 7: Paste the recipe into Saymmm

Click the Recipe link to make the recipe block appear. Right-click in the blank block and click Paste.

Step 8: Format recipe and ingredients

Step 9: Click Continue

Step 10: Select any categories that apply

Step 11: Rate recipe

Step 12: Finish!

Next up, I'll show you how to combine your recipes to make meals. Once that's done, all that's left is to plan the meals and use the shopping list. Is it wrong that I'm excited about showing you guys this??

Adoption Saga {Weeks 7 & 8}

Well as usual, life happened and I didn't get to write a recap of week 7.

I guess it's a good thing nothing happened!

Last week I got word from our 4 references that they had received their questionnaires from DSS.

They should all be turned back in now, so now we just wait for the next step. I'm really happy with the people we chose as our references. Since they couldn't be family, we chose people who have spent the most time with us. One is a best friend we've had since way before we were together. One is a friend that I worked with (who also happens to have worked for DSS for a number of years), and the other two are from our church.

With all that being said, I'm happy to report that we're able to cross # 8 off the list!

I'm still waiting to hear about getting scheduled for training.

Hopefully I'll have something new to report on Friday.

We've got other things cookin' at the Todd house, but I can't share those just yet. Just say a prayer when you think about us.

The sub-title for this post would be "This week's menu is brought to you by Pinterest".

Chase is going to play volleyball on Tuesday, so that's why an entire meal with nothing but pasta has appeared. In a funny twist of fate, the girl who LOVES pasta married the boy who HATES it.

Adoption Saga Recap {Week 6}

Hello Friends!

There's nothing new to report this week.

Still just waiting on a phone call about training.

I have to make our appointments for physicals (for the two-legged and four-legged among us).

I did mail off a form for my niece so that they could do a background check on her. (She's such a criminal! Just kidding...)

Hopefully next week will be much more exciting!

Please continue to keep us and our future children in your prayers. We really appreciate it!

Pinterest Project Dump

Hi, my name is Ashley. And I'm a Pinterest Junkie.

And as a result of my addiction, I have a lot of projects that were done over the holidays that I want to share with the class.

But first, here's my little photo collage my hubby surprised me with on facebook one day. I love when he gets the urge to have a secret photoshoot with my boys and surpise me!

Notice Bosley being shy for the camera. He's actually not shy, he's TERRIFIED of the camera for some reason. So much so that you can pick up any object and pretend to focus it on him and he gets all shifty and crazy eyed. It's so bizarre!

And to the other extreme, that's probably the only "looking away" shot of Artie that Chase got that day. He's a little camera slut. Yes, I called my dog a slut.

Moving on...

A majority of this holiday season was spent crafting, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that it was also spent like this:

Just add Chase and I snuggled under our blankets on the couch. Yep, that's it.

But on to the crafts.
Please excuse the iPhone pictures.
I just wish I knew a photographer that would let me borrow his camera...hmmm...

Instructions found here.
I loved this one! It was the first wreath I made in the fall and it gave me the fever.

Instructions for the yarn wrapping found here. But honestly, you just tie a knot around it and start wrapping it tightly. Ruffle instructions found here. Fabric Flower instructions found here. Gold T from Schlobby Bobby.

I took the ruffle instructions from the above wreath and covered the entire form with it. Ignore the fact that it's a little wonky. I tried to save some cash by following this lady's advice on making your own foam wreath rings. Yeah, it didn't work out so hot for me. I ended up taking all the ruffles off and reapplying them to one that I bought.

Inspriration from here.

Instructions found here. I only tweaked this by wrapping the entire foam ring in red velvet ribbon so that you could see red in the background of the peppermints. I also didn't use the red hots. This one is super cheap to make. The end product is beautiful, but HEAVY. I put this one in a silent auction for a friend and the winner told me that she was having a hard time finding something strong enough to hold it.

Someone had this one for sale for $65! I made this one for about $25.
I plan to do this again but make it much more fantastical.

Instructions found here. This one was a booger. It looks much more impressive in person than it does in the crappy picture above. It's very full and definitely catches the eye. Like I told a friend, I'll be glad to share how to make this one, but I will NOT make them in mass to sell. It was a big time suck. As in several days of 1 hour sessions because that's all I could stand. The process is simple but loooooong.

Lastly, I got really obsessed with making headbands. Chase was *this close* to taking away my glue gun. Let me tell ya, that would have been a fight! Inspiration for these were from here, here and my brain.
So there you have it. All the crafty goodness we had going on at the Todd house.
And for anyone wondering, yes I do plan on making wreaths for the other seasons. It's my goal to have a cute festive wreath for each month. You could consider it a resolution if it means that much to you.

Adoption Saga Recap {Week 5}

Happy New Year!

Not much to report on the progress front.

Next up for us this month:
  • Physicals (yay for free physicals with insurance!)
  • Doggie vaccinations (sorry boys)
  • A phone call about our 14 hour training

We're so excited about what this year holds for us. We know that God can and will do great things if we just trust Him. It's our goal to hold on to each other and grow our faith as we walk out this journey. Thanks for doing that with us!

Please continue to keep us and our future children in your prayers. We really appreciate it!
